It is very important that you have the adequate tools to take good care of your bonsai tree.

Basic tools

• Shears: they are used to cut small branches, leaves, and roots. Choose a shape and size that is adapted to your bonsai.
• Pliers: they are used to remove larger branches from the trunk without leaving a scar on the trunk.

Advanced tools

Pruning tools

• Pruning shears: they are in between shears and pliers. Pruners are used to cut branches that are too big for shears, but too small for pliers.
• Leaf cutters: they are used to cut the leaves.
• Foldable saws: they are used to cut branches that are too big for pliers.
• Grafting knives: they are used to make an incision in the bark of the trunk in order to insert a graft.

Repotting tools

• Sickle knives: they are used to take the bonsai tree off its pot when soil and roots are very compact and stuck to the pot.
• Root rakes: they are used to separate the roots when they are widely developed, and all tangled together.
• Root pliers: they are used to cut large roots during the repotting process.
• Soil scoops: they are used to add soil to the pot during the repotting process.

Wiring tools

• Wires: they are used to wire a bonsai tree in order to give it the desired shape.
• Jin pliers: they are used to strip the bark from the tree when we want to make a jin.
• Wire cutters: they are used to cut the wires during the wiring or repotting process.

Cleaning tools

• Tweezer spatulas: they are used to remove dead leaves or pests from spots difficult to access by hand.
• Coco brushes: they are used to clean the tree base and remove dead leaves.
• Brushes: they exist in a variety of materials (nylon, brass, steel.) and are used to remove moss from the trunk and branches.
